An Teallach

from £40.00

Giclée print of original acrylic on 1.5x1m canvas painting of An Teallach, a Scottish Munro located near Dundonnell.

As a hill runner, one year I went over to Dundonnell to run the An Teallach hill race. Visibility was down to 200m and conditions were less than optimal. There were only about 30 runners in the race and so when I got to the top and turned back around I couldn’t see anybody else to follow. Thinking I was on the correct path, I quickly realised that I was not. Going back up to the trig point I found that the marshals had gone. Being very disorientated in the mist I decided I was going to have to find a different way down. Having put on my emergency layers, got the map and compass out and spent some time blowing my whistle it became quickly clear that I was completely alone. I walked down to the beallach where the clouds cleared just enough to reveal the corrie below. I scrambled down the corrie wall and followed the river all the way down to the road. When I got back mountain rescue had been out looking for me and there were many concerned people waiting for me. A generous donation was made to the mountain rescue team in behalf of their efforts and so I had to go back on a nice weather day to paint the corrie wall.
